P I N K V E L V E T

Viv Thomas is back with a 2h 40min new masterpiece! It's nearly a perfect movie, one of the scenes is average but the remaining ones are so brilliant it's almost scary! Pink Velvet was released here in Europe earlier this year, and in mid-July both the DVD and VHS versions of it will be released simultaneously in the U.S.A. through LezloveVideo. They have bought exclusive U.S. rights to this movie, and I can't think of any better movie license a company could spend its money on. This means you won't find Pink Velvet in your local store. It will be available for purchase exclusively from the LezloveVideo site. The history behind the making of Pink Velvet is actually very interesting. Ever since Viv directed the last of those classic "five tapes", he has been producing x-rated videos. Even though his style is present in them, they've lacked the most important things which made his previous work so outstanding, like really long passionate kisses, natural-looking love making and an overwhelming sensuality throughout the productions. It felt like when he was allowed to show everything, there was too much emphasis on doing just that. Instead of letting the girls make love naturally, he had to place them in pretty awkward positions just so we viewers could see everything. And those damn toys!!!! But let's not get into that now...
Anyway, the insightful people over at LezloveVideo obviously recognize Viv's outstanding talent as a director of lesbian erotica. Like so many others, they loved the "five tapes", but weren't too happy with most of the x-rated videos he had been producing so far. They felt that what he needed was a "push in the right direction" so to speak. Jennifer at LezloveVideo began to persuade him to change a few things in his next project. She gave him a list of "dos and don'ts", forwarded him many customer comments, and after a lot of email correspondence between them, Viv finally gave in and said: "Let's make the lesbian movie of all movies!"
Jennifer kept contact with Viv during the production. She was sent the script which had been written by Lewis, one of Viv's video producers, and she continuously gave Viv ideas during the process, like the "sneaking around at night" scenes which work so well in the movie. The "dos and don'ts" list included for example: No looking into the camera. Longer flowing scenes Passionate kisses that mean something. No toys. Include a simple plot to make the scenes more interesting. Long build-up to the scenes. No scene should ever begin when the girls have already removed their clothes. Natural makeup, believable outfits and settings. After the completion of Pink Velvet, Viv has said that he just sat down on a sofa and thought to himself: This is the best material I've ever shot.. He was very proud of the result and he should be! The "old" Viv is back! Pink Velvet is also x-rated, but that's certainly not a bad thing if it's done right! Apart from the fact that there's not a single toy in the whole movie, there are three things in my opinion which make Pink Velvet such a brilliant production:

1:  There's a very exciting love story between Jo and an older woman which works surprisingly well considering Pink Velvet's relatively low budget and the language problems (the girls are all Hungarians and the dialogue is in English). Jo plays the young and sexually inexperienced girl to perfection, and Lisa, the older woman she falls in love with, is gently dominant in her scenes with Jo. 2:  It's very obvious the girls are very relaxed in their scenes and must have had a lot of fun when they filmed the movie. There is plenty of dialogue in the movie and I've read that the girls, who are not used to having dialogue, loved doing it. All this shows when they make love. Relaxed and happy actresses produce very hot scenes! 3:  They are all into women which is very evident in all of the scenes. When you do vidcaps from a movie, you get to see almost every frame of it very closely and you notice subtle behaviours from the actresses which can't be faked. Nothing is worse than seeing a girl who's not into women performing in an x-rated lesbian scene, but that's not the case here! Jo even refuses to do scenes other than with bisexuals or lesbians.

Pink Velvet's script writer Lewis had this very interesting information to share with me in a recent post: "Niclas, actually it's true in a lot of cases that girls 'perform' in lesbian scenes and go home to boyfriends, but I like to think it's precisely this which sets us apart from the rest. Viv actually goes out of his way to make sure the girls are into other girls. We keep a relaxed set so the girls are more at ease making love, and more specifically me and Viv try to get to know the girls and what they like in reality. Although it would be wrong for me to give away too much personal info about them I can assure you - ESPECIALLY in PINK VELVET - that those girls were all chosen very carefully. Dolores is a bi-sexual who absolutely adores girls and Ella was with a guy who couldn't take the fact she liked spending more time with Dolores. He once told me "They ain't going to the cinema all the time!" When we did their scene together in the bedroom Ella said very nicely, "Viv, it is ok if we do it long time so I cum?!" in her very cute accent. Lisa is fully into girls, Katie loves girls but is very shy and innocent about it (perfect!) and of course you know about Jo. We have been on location with all these girls and got to know them well, and if their attitude was 'I'm straight and just going to get on with the job' Viv wouldn't be happy. We won't tolerate static, false sex anymore. It's just too obvious when a scene feels like this, I hate it. The way forward is not nasty, hardcore, pushy sex. Its slow, relaxed, real sex which we shoot as beautifully as we can. The selection process (casting) is so much more important to us now." Lewis' comments (and the fact that he even takes time to correspond with customers) really says a lot about the difference between them and most other adult movie producers. Do yourself a favor.. Look at the vidcaps, read the scene description and when Pink Velvet is available for purchase at LezloveVideo in mid-July, go there any buy it. I can assure you that you won't regret it!
