This is a story about a fairly straight-laced Mythology Professor (played by Pascale Bussières), at a Calvinist-Christian college, and her partner (and fellow professor at the college), and a modern circus performer, played by Rachael Crawford.
After the death of her beloved dog Bob, Bussières's is comforted in a launderette by a complete stranger, Crawford. Bussières's is forced into meeting Crawford again, as Crawford had purposely swapped their laundry around, forcing another meeting, as Crawford was intrigued by Bussières's, and attracted to her on their first meeting.
Bussières's is eventually seduced by Petra, but their relationship is often under doubt - Bussières's is a strong Christian, with traditional values, and is under pressure from her male partner to get engaged and married, so they can be co-chaplains together. However, she does love Crawford, but perhaps is nervous and maybe even guilty at the thought of being in a relationship with another woman.
Bussières's has to choose between her existing life with her faith, her partner and the college, or to begin a new life, with the fresh and exciting Crawford, who is also the woman she loves more than anyone else, and whom lives a much different lifestyle to herself, something that she finds exciting in comparison to her current situation.

After shooting an arrow with an attached message from a bow into Bussières's window, Crawford waits outside for sometime until Bussières finally approaches her. Bussières beckons Crawford into the hallway of her house, where they share a fairly long and passionate kiss.
Bussières cuts the kiss off, however, before leaving and getting in her car and driving off.

After Bussières slightly hurts herself when she and Crawford are hand-gliding, they go back to Bussières's house where Crawford gives her a massage.
Crawford unbuttons her own top slightly, and unclips the back of Bussières's bra when her top is rolled up. Although Crawford seems to be planning something more than a massage, her plans are cut short when the Reverend from Bussières's college comes knocking at the door. Worried, Bussières hurriedly clips her bra back on properly and pulls down her top, before answering the door, swiftly ending anything that could have been.

When her partner is away in Chicago, Bussières visits Crawford at the circus.
Without any dialogue, Bussières and Crawford then proceed to have sex with one another. This scene is very tastefully done, and is not very explicit or graphic. Both actresses are unclothed, and this scene does leave some to the imagination, but it is a very touching scene none the less.

Bussières visits Crawford once more at the Circus. There is some sort of a party going on for the circus performers, and Crawford starts dancing with Bussières in quite an exotic way. Bussières is clearly uncomfortable, and informs Crawford that she is "not much of a dancer". Bussières ends up walking away, uncomfortable and embarrassed that Crawford is dancing with her that way in front of people.
Crawford chases after her, and in a short discussion, Crawford asks Bussières - "What is more dignified than dancing with the person I adore?", and they embrace each other in another passionate kiss.

This could be described as a "half love-scene", because we see Bussières, for a short time, acting like she is having sex with Crawford, but we don't actually see Crawford with her - she is not in the frame, but that is what the scene is implying.
Then, Bussières and Crawford are both lying unclothed in Crawford's bed, and Crawford says to Bussières,
"I love your sex, the sadness in your eyes & the way you say switcheroo", but also explains that the circus is moving on shortly, which means she'll be leaving.
After a discussion, Crawford kisses Bussières whilst she is getting dressed, but this is witnessed by Bussières's male partner, who sees them through a window.

This is a brilliant film. It's a really nice romance. The two main actresses, Bussières and Crawford are wonderful. Their acting is top notch, as it that of the actor who plays Bussières male partner.
The contrasting lifestyles of Bussières and Crawford are depicted wonderfully. Bussières's difficult situation is portrayed well - she is a professor at a Christian college, she has a long term male partner, and is viewed as an ideal Christian woman, but she falls in love with a fellow woman, who has a totally different life. It is easy to see why Bussières falls in love with the exciting Crawford, and why she would want to leave her stuffy and systematic life for something more fresh and exciting.
The kissing scenes in this film are good, and the love scenes are touching, but it no means graphic. It's not the kind of film where you'll find greatly explicit or hard/soft-core love scenes.
I would recommend this film to anyone, whether they are gay or straight, because although it is about a woman falling in love with another woman, the lesbian romance is thankfully depicted well - it is treated like any other romance story, gay or straight, should be treated.

Pascale Bussières is a classical mythology professor at a christian college and engaged to marry a fellow professor and theologian. But after a chance meeting at the laundromat with the lovely Rachael Crawford, a circus performer, she starts to fall in love with her. The rest of the movie deals with how she overcomes this conflict between work, fiance, and love.
The two meet at Pascale's house and before Rachael leaves, Pascale plants a great kiss on Rachael, lasts a while too.
Later in the movie, Rachael starts to massage Pascale rather intimately under her shirt, while Pascale recites greek myth (cupid and such). Pascale is a bit reluctant, but lets Rachael proceed anyway. Then the dean of the university arrives unannounced to meet with Pascale. Pascale then badmouths Rachael to the dean in the hallway after Rachael does not take the hint to leave. But do not worry all is not lost...
Pascal arrives late at night to Rachael's bed in the abandoned warehouse where the circus is headquatered (temporarily for the moment). They then promptly lose all their clothing without a word spoken between the two. Groping (hands are diffenently shown grasping the nether regions), fondling, kissing, and even some scissor action is briefly shown at the end. The scene was bookended with two trapeze artists (huge metaphor) performing an act. The two actresses are then shown in the pose of the video cover (lovely one at that) with Rachael lying on top of Pascale with red silk sheets all around.
There is a scene that comes either before the previous one or after, but it involves Pascale daydreaming at her kitchen that Rachael comes up from behind in the shadows and kisses Pascale around the neck. Really short scene.
The two are shown naked in Rachael's trailer discussing things. Then the fiance comes towards the trailer after finding a picture of Rachael among Pascale's papers and finds a card which Rachael left for Pascale. The fiance just came home from a conference and was hoping to see Pascale when he came back, no one was home. He sees the two of them naked from a window and waits til Pascale comes out, confronts her and says he wants to talk with her later tonight. Then introduces himself to Rachael, exits, then bangs the crap out of the trailer. Leaves Rachael shaken.
Great movie, good performances. Also a cute dog thrown into the mix, named Bob who plays a crucial role at the beginning, but you are left wondering about him at the end. Interesting scene involving Rachael and company performing with irons, a sort of commentary on female domestic issues. Another cool scene with hang gliders. The ending seemed a bit rushed and way too many hallelujahs (seemed a bit annoying and overdone to go the gospel singing route). Oh and be aware you have to sit through one scene of heterosexual sex with Pascale and the fiance (and the fiance's butt). Also shows the plight of independent circuses which are a unique bunch of folks. Be sure to see it when you can, I can assure with fairly good certainty that you will enjoy this film.

This is a classic and must see if you enjoy lesbian films. This picture is beauty photograghed and the actresses are gorgeous as well. The dialog leaves much to be desired. The visual quality and capable story telling of this film makes this forgivable. The "love scenes" are preciuosly heartfelt tastefully erotic. The main charater's complex situation is handled well and it has a good ending.
