Build-up  3 Kissing  3 Love scenes  Episode overall  3

Star Trek's take on homophobia is metaphored with Trill society's taboo of "reassociation," or joined Trills trying to recapture the experiences of a previous host during a current one. Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) is surprised to learn that her ex-widow Lenara Kahn (Susannah Thompson) has come to the station for wormhole experiments; the two symbionts Dax and Kahn had been hosted by a married couple earlier, and Dax's host died in a shuttle wreck with lots of guilt about it.

Actresses:
Terry Farrell & Susannah Thompson

Lenara (Thompson) comes to Jadzia's (Farrel) quarters to talk about the tension they've been feeling working together. They eventually get close, and share some delicate, loving kisses.

I envy Susannah Thompson.
Seriously, it was actually quite nice, way nicer than it was in a later episode. They were trying to do a serious love story here, and it played out quite nicely; both women seemed to genuinely care for each other.

Terry Farrell is just so sexy, and when I saw her kissing another woman, I nearly fell off my chair.
This episode caught my gaydar right from the start, the build-up is fantastic. When the kiss finally arrives, it can't be better. Yes, there is homophobia at play -the "re-association" of a dead man's symbiont and what not, and yet, WHO CARES!! And the post-kiss scene, after the accident, is just heart-breakingly sweet.
But don't get too excited: they just had to separate them at the end...

The storyline was pretty romantic to begin with, and made for a lot of the buildup because of the "previous history" they shared as a married couple in previous lives. However, it was the way the chemistry was played out that really anchored this episode in my mind because of the way they looked at each other. (During a dinner scene, they were sitting close to each other and just basically looking into each other's eyes the whole time they talked.)

Of course, there's the slightly cliched "rescue" portion when Thompson's caught in a chemical fire and Farrell goes to save her.

But it was Thompson, in my opinion, that really nailed the kissing scene, because she was so into it. And she was kissing Farrell's fingers before the kiss itself, which was just so hot. Farrell seemed to be more nonchalant about the whole thing, but Thompson really brought out the years of pent-up feelings after Farrell's previous host died.

And when they had to be separated at the end the story left their feelings intact, and separated because of politics and not because they stopped loving each other. Very, very hot.

Terry Farrell is so amazing in this--there is a lesbian energy to her character before this episode, a kind of boyish precocious quality and a physical way of carrying herself that was probably her way of depicting the prior Kurzon identity (male) and the dax symbiant. The way she touches and kisses is so hot because it is just like how my girlfriends did it - like real women (especially the tops) really touch and kiss. Super hot, too bad they don't do more with it in the show.
