Plot: (from filmnytt)
Late 1980s Berlin was marked by a strong and vibrant activist scene. In the years prior to the fall of Communism and the dismantling of the Berlin Wall, men and women, straight and gay, worked to affect change in society through political action. Filmmaker Barbara Teufel, a veteran of this scene, fictionalizes her experiences through the story of a collective of women, some straight, some lesbian, who live together on Knight Street in Kreuzberg, the hub of youth revolt. The experiences of these "female knights," or "gallant girls," reflect the tumultuous changes that took place during this period, both on a personal and broader social level. In addition, Teufel expertly weaves in interviews with the real Gallant Girls, who comment on their lives then and now, more than a decade later.
