Carol Monda plays a tough but jaded photographer who wears leather and smokes unfiltered cigarettes. She comes to a small seaside town to care for her dying uncle, where her bristling aloofness elicits stony unwelcome from the down-home locals. The film follows Monda as she struggles with anger, fear, and death, and her rocky courtship of a wary short-order cook played by Joy Kelly.

Carol Monda & Joy Kelly

Monda drags Kelly out for an evening with her big-city lesbian friends. They all wind up dancing together in the local bar, and have a great time despite the stares of the locals. Afterwards, Monda plants a quick kiss on Kelly when she drops her off at home.

Monda and Kelly finally get together near the end of the film and make love in Kelly's home. The love scene is both hot and tasteful, and very genuine-feeling.

This film teeters on the edge between good and mediocre. I had trouble understanding some of the characters' reactions, which I attribute more to script problems than to the actors' efforts.
File it under Romance, but more the rocky, troubled sort of romance than the fluffy feel-good sort.
