Helen Mirren, an upper middle-class housewife suffers a breakdown. Her husband dutifully tries to restore their family unit as best he knows how, by hiring a 'Mother's Helper', Kyra Sedgwick. Mirren is harsh and caustic towards Sedgwick, until they discover each other's similarities. A strong relationship develops, affecting their personal and familial salvation, and destruction.

A wonderful kiss takes place on the beach.

Overall, watching the two women slowly fall in love with each other is terrific.

I rented this movie because Helen Mirren is an attractive older lady and Sedgewick is hot. I wanted to see them make out. I was severley disappointed and the kiss on the beach might as well have been between mother and daughter. It was completely asexual.

This is another movie I thought would have a decent kiss in it, based on the publicity ("Helen Mirren kisses Kyra Sedgwick!"). But it was one of those phony kisses, where lips don't touch--Helen Mirren kisses past the corner of Kyra Sedgwick's mouth, with a camera angle to make it look like she's planting a big wet one. It's an old Hollywood trick for squeamish actors and I wasn't fooled or impressed. Kyra doesn't kiss back; in fact she's almost in tears over it, then runs down the beach sobbing. Plus, it comes near the end of the movie, it's out of the blue, and there's almost no buildup.
This is a great movie on its own, very well made and entertaining. Just don't go expecting any big make out scene.

The kiss had no feeling, no fireworks, no nothing. It's not very believable, Kyra Sedgwick looked terrified and Helen Mirren just didn't seem to care. It seems it was just thrown in spare of the moment.
