This is a remake (entirely different plot though) of the classical swedish sex education movie 'Kärlekens Språk' (Language of Love) made in 1969 The original movie contained explicit sex scenes which of course created a big scandal and it was therefore banned in most countries.
The new version's central character is played by Regina Lund (who is bisexual in real life). Her character is a promgram host of a very popular sex education tv-show. The other characters of interest are two high school girls, played by Emma Åberg and Helena Lindblom.
In the beginning of the movie, Emma is watching Regina's tv-show with a group of friends. By the look on Emma's face, you can tell that she's not as impressed with Regina as her friends are. Helena, who lives with her grandfather and grandmother, is also watching the show, but alone at home.
There are several story-lines in this movie, but I will obviously focus on what's being shown in the lesbian story-line.

Actresses:
Emma Åberg & Helena Lindblom

Emma and Helena have started dating each other. Helena works at a second-hand record store during weekends. One day, Emma makes a surprise visit to the store. She sneaks up on Helena from behind and gives her a hug.
They later go home to Emma, and in the kitchen they kiss each other for the first time. Then they're seen on a bed kissing some more.

The very happy couple is having a cup of coffee in a park. Later that day when they're in a furniture store, Helena mentions Regina's popular tv-show, and Emma says she can't understand why everyone likes her. They also give each other a quick kiss while they're in the store.

Actresses:
Emma Åberg & Regina Lund

Emma goes out alone to a gay club one evening. She's waiting in line outside the club when a limousine arrives, and stepping out from the backseat is no other than Regina. Despite what Emma earlier has said about Regina, she now seems absolutely fascinated by her, and when Regina walks by her, Regina gives her a quick glance.
Once inside the club, Emma spots Regina up on a balcony in the V.I.P section, and Regina notices her as well. Later on in the evening, Regina has come down to dance, and Emma stands at the bar watching her. We suddenly see Regina inviting Emma into her appartment later that night, and in flashbacks we see how Regina came onto Emma at the bar. While Regina takes something to drink from the refrigerator, Emma watches her with an anticipating look on her face. Regina approaches Emma, and they begin to kiss each other. Then we seen them making love in the Sauna.
The next morning when they eat breakfast, Regina thanks Emma for last night, saying that she has felt so sad these last days. Regina becomes really suprised when Emma tells her that she's a high school student. Regina herself is in her late 30s.
Later on, Emma visits Helena to let her know what happened. She says to her that she's been with this woman, but that she can't reveal her name as she's very famous. Helena is of course devastated, and tells Emma that she should leave immediately.

Actresses:
Helena Lindblom & unknown

Helena is having a party in her house. There's a girl there who's been interested in Helena for quite a while, and when she asks one of Helena's classmates, she's told that Helena is single now. Later in the evening, she and Helena exchange looks, and they soon disappear upstairs into Helena's room.
Emma, who still has very deep feelings for Helena, comes to the party in order to talk to her. She asks a girl where Helena is, and she's told that she went upstairs. Emma opens the door to Helena's room, and sees Helena and the other girl naked in bed. Helena just looks at Emma for a short second, and then continues to kiss the girl she's with. Emma runs out from the house, and we see her crying when's back home. She also visits Regina just to talk to her (they haven't met since that night), but she's not even invited into her appartment. Regina says to her that she's trying to make things good again with her boyfriend.

Actresses:
Emma Åberg & Helena Lindblom

Emma is a guest on Regina's tv-show, probably because Regina felt sorry for her. She's there to ask her girlfriend to forgive her for what's she done to her. Helena sits at home watching the show as Emma explains that she's been unfaithful and how much she regrets it. A producer tells Regina to ask Emma if she wants to say anything to the woman she had the one-night stand with. Emma says that the woman was unfortunately irresistable and that this tv-show will probably no longer be her girlfriend's favorite one!
Later we see Emma walking into the record store where Helena works, and when they spot each other, you can see tears in Emma's eyes. The final scene shows them making love in a candle-lit room.

This movie was such a positive surprise. I had no high hopes for it simply because erotic movies haven't been produced in Sweden since the 1970s, and I thought they would be afraid to show anything and instead just talk about the subject, which would become pretty boring. I was also quite certain that the lesbian story-line would have little room in the movie, but to my surprise it felt like it was the most significant story-line in the movie!

When it comes to the performances by the actresses, I have to say that Emma Åberg was sensational! It's her first movie, and she outshined most of the other actors and actresses, many whom are quite famous. She will have a great future in the movie business!

The two love scenes with Emma and Helena were really beautiful, some would say too soft, but I didn't mind at all. It was their love story which my mind was concentrated on, not so see them have sex. Emma and Regina's sex scene on the other hand was much more explicit, but it unfortunately took place in a pretty dark Sauna, full with steam. I can live with that, but what I find irritating is that all other sex scenes in the movie were shot so you could see everything which was going on. I have seen this phenomena in numerous other movies, the lesbian scene being shot in a very dark room and the boring hetero scenes being shot in well lit rooms. You can only wonder why..

Kärlekens Språk is a very nice sex education movie, and the lesbian story-line will at least not discourage young swedish girls from acting on their feelings towards other girls..:)
