"Girl" is NOT about lesbianism at all. Dominique Swain plays a smart kid who falls in love with a lead-singer of a local rock band and she goes through shits to get with him.

TheVertMan:
Build-up: 3 Kissing: 2 Movie overall: 5
This movie was one of those I taped off HBO simply because it had Dominique Swain as the primary star. I now look back fondly on that decision, because it was well worth the investment of a couple of hours of my time. The movie not only has Swain, but features a gorgeous set of co-stars, most notably Tara Reid. The movie's central plot involves Swain as a slightly obsessed teen fan of a local underground band. Also central is Tara Reid's character and her struggle over what to do when she's offered a recording deal and her band mates aren't.
After somewhat of a struggle Swain does get her wish and becomes the band's front figure's main squeeze (and loses her virginity), but is totally heart broken when his band leaves town for a set of gigs up north. I'll leave the storyline review at this for fear of ruining the movie for everyone and move on to the kiss scene.
Swain goes to a party near the end of the movie and reconnects with her ex-best friend and a while later is asked to come outside by Tara Reid. They talk and Reid starts crying and tells her she loves her and without much advance warning, kisses her. Only for a brief second. It seemed to me to be so in the flow of the movie, that it didn't really stand out. Honestly if you watched the movie without knowing they kissed, I believe it wouldn't be much of a surprise, due to the way Tara's character is slowly built through the film. It was a very nice scene and not at all out of the way.
It's a fabulous movie from beginning to end, I would highly recommend you watch it if you can find it on VHS or DVD, or do it on the cheap like me and wait till it comes on HBO again and tape it.
Stand out Performances by Dominique Swain and Tara Reid.
