It's no surprise that self-proclaimed lesbian movie star Anne Heche is on the June cover of the gay magazine Out. What will come as a shock to some is an interview inside with elfin Ally Sheedy.
Sheedy talks about her new movie, "High Art," by indie writer/director Lisa Cholodenko, in which she plays a heroin-addicted lesbian photographer and indulges in very graphic lovemaking scenes with actress Patricia Clarkson. The action wasn't simulated, she says. Sheedy, now 34, is asked by Out about her "convincing performance" and whether she has any real-life experience of lesbianism. "Yeah, I checked it out," she answers. "You thought I'd say no, right?"

She adds that at the moment, she is monogamous with her husband of five years, and "one of the things he loves about me is that I find a lot of women really attractive. And I don't find as many men attractive."
Sheedy says she has been waiting for years for a part like this one. "It's the closest thing to me that ever came along," she claims. "It's been frustrating, because the perception of me has been the girl next door. But I'm as far removed from that as anybody could possibly be."
