| Gia Carangi became one of the first female US citizens known to have died of AIDS, on November 18th, 1986. Her life ended way too early but she's remembered by a whole world. I can truly recomend the movie "Gia" which tells the tragical story about her short life. Gia was very open about her homosexuality, never trying to hide it. An early gay-male pal said in the book where all this information come from: "Gia was the purest lesbian I ever met. It was the clearest thing about her. She was sending girls flowers when she was 13, and they would fall for her whether they was gay or not!" A high-school classmate: "Gia just loved women. She went after them and she always got them." One of her earliest female lovers though said: "She always wished she loved men - it would have made life so much less complicated. But she just always really loved women." Gia talked a lot about having her heart broken by Sandy Linter, a bisexual make-up artist. Their relationship is well described in the movie. A friend of Gia says: "That was a very significant relationship to her." Polly Mellen, a fashion fixture talked about the problems with Gia being both lesbian *and* sexually pretty straight-forward: "She was sexually very aggressive. You couldn't room her with another female model. If you did, she made advances and the other models would come and speak with me. You had to keep her away from other beautiful girls and you had to watch her carefully if she went out at night - if you were going to see her the next day and not hear that she was laying in another girl's bed somewhere in the city." It is also said that there is a "secret" group of today's young models who call themselves "Gia's Girls" - choosing to follow "the footsteps of lesbian addict Gia Carangi". | ||
