'Zij aan Zij ', unknown 2003 issue: (translated to english by Galith) "SARAH BETTENS: FINALLY HAPPY" Lesbian fans were hoping for it for a while already, since this year Sarah Bettens, singer-songwriter of the Belgian band K’s Choice has indeed found love with a woman. "Everything fell on it s place, musically, but also personally. I found peace through the one i love", Sarah Bettens (31) tells at the record company’s office in the Netherlands. Before her hair was always died white, now her hair has it s original brown colour. For many years the singer from Kapellen, Belgium, has had a lot of lesbian fans because of her great looks and her happy tomboylike-appearance. At one of K’s Choice last shows, at Marktrock, Belgium, there were more women and lesbian couples in front than ever. Sarah doesn’t make a big thing out of her sexuality. “No big deal, I don’t want to make it a big thing.” Belgian newspapers did make a big thing out of it though, when it earlier this year came out that she had fallen in love with a female friend of her American husband, with whom she had been happily married for years. Sarah didn’t give any comments. Her brother Gert, guitarist and co-writer of K’s Choice told the press that he was perplex about the storm in the media. The only thing Sarah did, from her home in California, was thanking all fans who supported her. The former photography student has an attitude like “I prefer women, so what?”. She does refer to a happy period of time she is in now. “My life is completely different now. It’s stable.” K’s Choice last studio-album was called Almost Happy because Sarah always said to miss something to feel completely happy, now she says frankly: “I am happy! I got everything, (huisje, boompje, beestje – a Dutch expression, I don’t know how to translate the expression, the words mean: home, tree, animal, like you have everything) and maybe kids in the future, though I don’t want to think that far yet.”
