GENERAL

Why are you doing this?

Well, I've been absolutely fascinated by everything lesbian ever since I saw Emmanuelle 2 in a movie theater here in Sweden back in the early 1980s. When I got older, I began to collect movies with lesbian content, and by the time I got onto the net for the first time (in 1995), the collection had become rather impressive. I looked around to see if there were other people who shared my fascination, but I couldn't find any sites, so in 1997, I decided to build a site to see if it would attract any visitors. I came up with the name The Encyclopedia of Lesbian Movie Scenes, and a few months later the site was launched. I'm sure some of you remember the very fist version of ELMS. It was a very simplistic site to say the least. It's a shame that I haven't got it saved. Now I can only vaguely remember how it looked like.

Anyway, it didn't take long until the first visitors came there, and I still remember the thrill of finally being able to chat with people who were sharing my interest. Over the years, the site became more and more popular, and the problems began..It was shut down numerous times because of the traffic it generated. I had to constantly change service providers because of this. I grew tired of all the problems and I even took a break from it in the late 1990s. In my absence, a guy named Dmitri took over the maintenance of ELMS.

When I got back, I was soon contacted by Jennifer at LezloveVideo. She said she loved the site and that she was willing to let me use one of their servers for ELMS. She solved the traffic and storage problems, for which I'm eternally grateful. If it hadn't been for LezloveVideo, there would certainly be no free ELMS to visit!
The fact that it's free is also very important for me. I believe in sharing information, and the more people who have the opportunity to see the beauty of lesbian love, the better! Yes, the beauty...I see ELMS as a counterweight to all the filthy and often degrading "lesbian" porn sites on the net, but also as an alternative to the mostly very political lesbian sites made by women. Speaking about "lesbian" porn sites, if you only knew how many of them I've been contacted by and asked if I'd be interested in placing advertisement for their sites on ELMS. It feels so good every time I get to reject their "offer".

My goal is to have a site which appeals to both women and men. It's not a simple task, but judging from an earlier visitor survey, I must have somewhat succeeded, because the site's visitors are nearly evenly split between the two genders. I hope this, along with the huge number of visitors, shows that women find this site to be displaying lesbian erotica in a tasteful way and that men find it more appealing than lesbian porn sites.

Why can't we have more frequent updates?

First of all, I believe many people underestimate how much time it takes for one person to do these updates. I won't go into detail to describe the work needed to update ELMS, but I can just say that I believe few people would find it worth the time.
The updates are often pretty big on the other hand. I could of course do smaller updates which automatically would make them more frequent. I have thought about this, but it just feels a bit tiny to present an update consisting of only, say, 4 new movies. I don't know.. Let me know what you think. Should I do smaller updates, but more often?

Who are the two girls on the photo on the front page?

It is Dominique Swain and James King, and it's a promotion photo for the movie Happy Campers, which can be found in the movie section.

MOVIE SECTION

Why hasn't my movie review shown up on the site yet?

If your review is the first one of a particular movie, I'm probably waiting to capture still-images to add along with your review. I always try to add both at the same time. You may also have forgotten to name the title of the movie. Mostly I can figure out which movie you're reviewing but not always. Where it says "title" in the review forms, it's not the title of the review but the title of the movie. It must always be filled in.
Some reviews are also not very useful. Now and then I receive reviews with nudity described in detail, but the lesbian content being described very briefly or being left out completely. This is not a nude celebrity site. Go to www.cndb.com if you want to review nudity in movies.

Why are there so many movies listed which I can't click on?

These are movies from my collection which I haven't had time to capture stills from yet, and I do wonder if I will ever find the time.

Apart from these, I have probably 300 additional movies which I haven't even listed yet. Add to this the constant flow of new movies.

What can I do to help you out?

Write reviews. These are very valuable, much more valuable than still-images in my opinion. A movie can look really hot when you look at the still-images, when in reality it's not. When I capture stills from a movie, I of course choose the frames which look best. The truth can be that these few frames are the only ones where it looks like the girls are enjoying themselves. The rest of the scene may be awful!

Capture stills. I prefer DVD caps of course. Just make sure that the movie you're about to capture stills from doesn't already have stills (if it has stills but bad looking ones, you should contact me and ask if I'd like to replace them). What you'll need in order to capture stills is a DVD-rom on your computer and some software capable of playing the DVD + capturing stills from it. I'm using PowerDVD for this purpose. Click here to read a detailed description of how I capture stills from a DVD.

Send info. I'm in constant search for information about movies, tv-series, games or music videos with lesbian content. It can be old or upcoming ones. Please send me info whenever you find something interesting. This is the area where you can really do the most. I'm a bit disappointed that I find so many new movies on my own. I'd like to think that this site's many visitors from all around the world, and all sharing the same interest, would be able find more movies than a single person (me).. I am especially interested in movies produced outside the USA and Canada (mainly because those are the ones which are most difficult to find out about). You can send this info in a simple email to ncb@bredband.net

Why are there no clips from movies on ELMS?

There are two reasons. 1..The bandwidth costs would be skyrocketing. It's extremely expensive to allow tens of thousands of people to download clips. 2..It would most definitely create a lot of copyright problems. I'm not even allowed to show still-images from movies without permission, but I believe producers aren't as upset with these as they would be if clips from their movies showed up here. As it is now, I think they look upon this site as free advertisement for their movies.

What are these European 1970s/1980s movies and where can I buy them?

These great movies of which there were probably thousands being produced over a 20-year period, are actually belonging to different genres (or maybe sub-categories would be a word to use). I decided to lump them together though, as they all have a certain feel to them, one which is very noticeable. The also have a few other things in common. They are all regular movies in the sense that they are story driven, have nearly as much dialogue as "normal" movies and are often far from being "zero budget" movies. The acting can also be very good. It almost upsets me when people sometimes ask me if these movies are similar to the ones produced by Seduction Cinema. Once and for all, they have nothing in common, except for the good taste of including many lesbian scenes!..:)
Here's a list of the various sub-categories I can think of, and also the plot and lesbian content normally associated with each sub-category:

Lesbian vampires: A lonely vampire out looking for female prey or a life companion. It can be in an all-girl boarding school, or by luring them to her castle. The lesbian love scenes are often quite soft and the eroticism lies more in the dominance factor than in actual sex being shown. This aspect of lesbian vampire movies is something I enjoy very much, that she can hypnotize and seduce pretty much any woman she wants to with her vampire powers.
Nunsploitation: Nuns with lesbian urges was of course a very popular theme in movies from catholic countries such as Italy and Spain. The movies often tells the story about a young innocent girl who's being sent to a Monastery, but instead of becoming pure and good, she's being corrupted by the sex-crazy nuns. The lesbian sex scenes can be pretty explicit in these movies, sometimes bordering on hardcore, and it's unfortunately rare to find stories where two nuns fall in love.
W.I.P. (Women-In-Prison): This theme seems to be popular all around the world. I've seen W.I.P movies from countries which I hardly even knew existed..:) European W.I.P movies are no different than, let's say, Japanese or Brazilian W.I.P movies. Normally we have a girl who's being falsely accused of a crime and sent to a women's prison. There she becomes the object of desire for the female guards, the female warden, and the leader among the inmates. There is also at least one shower scene, and the movies always ends with an prison escape (either her alone or with a group of friends). The sex scenes range from being "hard softcore" to near hardcore, and again, it's unusual to see two girls fall in love. This is all about violence and sex. The violence is almost always of the theatrical kind, which I believe few people will be upset about, but a couple of movies contain violence which probably look too real for most people's taste. I will from now on give out a warning if I add such a movie to the the site.
Naziploitation: A variant of W.I.P movies. Instead of regular women's prisons, we here have Nazi run prisons during World War II. The movies can also take place in SS controlled brothels. The reason why filmmakers began to use Nazi prisons as the setting for W.I.P movies was because they found out that they were less likely to be censored if they could present movies with a historical reference. These movies include more violence and less lesbian sex than regular W.I.P. movies. I can only think of two movies that I can recommend: Salon Kitty and Le Deportate della sezione speciale SS.
Erotic horror: Horror movies with strong erotic content. They can involve witches, cannibals, zombies, devil-worshippers, serial-killers, ghosts or anything else commonly found in horror movies. These movies always include lesbian kisses or love scenes, and they range from being very soft to near hardcore.
Giallo: These are Italian crime/horror movies, and many of these are considered to be movie classics. These are probably the movies which resemble today's mainstream movies the most. The lesbian love scenes are often very soft (at lest in comparison with the other sub-categories), but they are still generally more explicit than what can be shown in today's movies. Far from every giallo include lesbian content though, and just like in today's movies, lesbians are seldom found among the lead-characters.
Erotic drama: These are regular softcore movies, but what separates them from today's softcore movies is that women were allowed to fall in love with each other, and lesbians could be positively portrayed, believe it or not! Two other great things about these movies are the highly erotic love scenes which range from softcore to near hardcore, and the fact that the plot sometimes could be worth following. The people who directed erotic movies back then were often very talented, and you could actually make yourself a name by producing erotica. Today, with the exception of a number of French directors, it seems like the only people who are directing these kind of movies, are the hmmm.... "less-talented", to put it nicely.

So where can you buy these movies? 5-10 years ago, it was very difficult to find most of these movies. The best you could hope for was to find a really poor looking illegal copy on a VHS tape, but with the arrival of DVD, things have begun to change. Many of these movies, and not just the most well-known titles, are now being digitally restored and sold on DVD. In order to find an online seller, just to go www.google.com and put in "title of the movie" DVD and you will immediately find a number of places where you can buy it from.

LESBIAN CELEBRITIES SECTION

I have sent you a lot of names, but they're never added to the section. Why?

When it comes to contributing names for the lesbian celebrities section, you have to include the source of this information (preferably a link to an article where she speaks about the subject). I can't add a name to the section merely based on an email which states that it's a "well known fact" or something like that.

It's also an awfully long time between updates, isn't it?

Apart from the fact that I need names in order to update it, the section is also one of the most time-consuming to update. A name is given to me with maybe some links to articles or sites. I go there and try to find the interesting parts of an article for an excerpt. Then I go out on the net to search for additional articles and hopefully some nice pictures of this person (which sometimes can be pretty difficult if she's not very well known). Finally I have to put everything together. If you really want to help me out, you could do some of this work prior to sending me the name. It would be very much appreciated. You don't have to use the submit form. You can send a regular email just as well, with images attached to it.

The celebrities listed under "Tidbits", are some of them lesbian or bisexual?

I have no idea, but one thing is for sure, the articles/statements that you can read there, are in no way an indication that they're anything else than 100% straight..

CELEBRITY IMAGES SECTION

Ehh..where are the updates? It's updated like twice a year if we're lucky..

The problem is of course that there are few images out there of female celebrities being intimate with each other in public. The paparazzi simply ain't doing their job! How hard can it be to come up with photos of two beautiful Hollywood actresses caught making love to each other?

Viv Thomas section

Why are you using promotion photos instead of DVD caps?

I am not using any promotion photos. All images from the newer titles in the section are DVD caps (older ones have VHS caps). The same goes for all images in the selected x-rated section. Viv's newer DVDs have outstanding image quality, and it's quite possible to make the captures look rather photo-like. You just have to put some effort into it.

Selected x-rated section

Isn't this site supposed to be free from porn?

I think it's stupid to exclude a video just because the girls are doing it for real as opposed to faking it. What's so sad is that the only x-rated videos most people in this world come in contact with, are the toy-infested videos which you can see on the shelves in your local video rental store or watch on cable. There are other x-rated lesbian videos, produced by smaller companies such as TNV, Girlfriends Films, Passion Fruit, Abby Winters, Little Mutt and Promotions Company, which are very nice. You can find their videos by clicking here.
I just want to show people that there is an alternative to all these lousy videos, where screaming breast-enchanced pornstars do their best to make women look like playtoys for men, and the "girl-girl" scenes are so clinically free from any kind of genuine passion. I urge everyone to stop renting/buying this crap. Instead, use your money to support the smaller companies, the ones that really deserve to be supported. What it really comes down to in the end is the difference in which they portray women and the way they treat the models who work for them.
